Dear Reader,
I’m Danielle (Dani for short).
Anyone who knows me personally KNOWS that I’m a dreamer. I love dreaming up fantastical ideas about pretty much anything. I’m always in my head imagining SOMETHING whether it be how to make something better, how to make something happen, where I’d like to go next or do next, etc. Sometimes, I’m a tad bit extreme and have to reign myself back in. It’s to the point where I can easily drift off into my own world no matter how many people are in a room or where I am. My last name is La Touche and so I’m now known to be in a world called “la la la touche land” when I totally miss something that happens in real life.
Now that somewhat I’ve convinced you all that I’m somewhat loopy (kidding), let’s get down to my latest concern. One of the concepts that I’ve been really focusing on lately is the idea that people are really experiencing serious bouts of burnout. I know so many people who are living lives that are lacking balance. I listen to friends talk about how tired they are. I’ve watched family members work with no end in sight. I see the burnout and one of my dreams is to see it go away. Did I mention that a significant number of these people are Seventh Day Adventist Christians who observe the Sabbath? A growing number of SDAs, that I know, don’t even consider the Sabbath to be a day of rest anymore. The Sabbath is a day full of rehearsals, meetings, organized potlucks, and by the time a person gets a chance to breathe, the Sabbath is over.
This cycle MUST stop.
As the lifestyle editor of TheFence.org, I want to propose a shift in the way we think, act, work, play, and rest as Christians. There is only ONE you so you’ve got to take care of yourself. God made no mistake in creating the masterpiece that is you. Why destroy it? To take it a step further, as a believer in Jesus Christ, why destroy His masterpiece (I’m talking about YOU) in His name? It’s something to think about.
I’ll be exploring different ways to create a healthy life balance and am excited to share my findings with you. I invite you to share your questions, comments, and concerns on this very broad topic since this is an open forum/think tank.
Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this letter and stay tuned!
With love,
Dani
I love. I must be in “la la latouche land” too!
